 workshop and conference of the Long-Term Group „Dimensions of  
 \nRegulation: Conceptualizing the Popular in the Drugs/Violence Nexus
 [1]„\,   \nthe participants explore the „gray zone“ between legality
 and illegality   \nin drug economies\, examining how prohibitionist
 policies\, militarization\, and   \nsecuritarian narratives shape systems
 of violence\, inequality\, and   \ngovernance. Moving beyond the
 conventional framing of the „war on drugs“\,   \nit looks at how
 state-driven narratives and surveillance practices reinforce   \nstigmas
 around class\, gender\, and race\, while often overlooking the everyday  
 \nrealities of people involved in these economies. Drawing on
 interdisciplinary   \nperspectives and critical debates\, the opening
 conference proposes the   \nPopular as both an economic and an analytical
 lens. It aims to rethink   \ndominant narratives around „drug
 trafficking“ and „cartels“\, and to   \nexplore more grounded and
 just alternatives. \n \nIn addition to the members of the Long-Term
 Group\, the sessions are enriched   \nby contributions of renowned
 scholars and practitioners such as *Rita Laura   \nSegato (Brazil)\, Seth
 Harp (USA)\, Luci Cavallero (Argentina)\, and Luca Trenta   \n(UK)*\,
 among others—bringing a vibrant range of perspectives and expertise
