Community Care and Self-Care in Times of Crisis: Insights & Reflections
with Anahita Sattarian (Psychotherapist & Psychologist, M.Sc.) Workshop in English
Wars, conflicts, the climate crisis, the rise of the far right and financial worries: so much is perceived as heavy, contradictory and almost unbearable right now. Feeling overwhelmed, powerless and exhausted aren’t personal weaknesses, but understandable reactions to ongoing crisis. Between news feeds, push notifications, social media and the pressure to stay informed, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to disconnect. At the same time, self-care is often sold to us as individual consumptions, yet we realise: genuine care runs deeper, requires caring relationships and collective structures. How can we strengthen our mental health while so much is happening at once? What helps in the long run? How might different forms of compassion look like, without viewing the burden solely as an individual challenge?
In this workshop, we’ll work practically with concepts of community care, resilience, mindfulness and stress regulation. We aim to create a safer space for worries, various feelings, connection and hope. This space won’t offer simple answers to complex crisis, but it may offer a coping guide, best practice techniques from psychology and the reminder that you are not alone with everything that is happening right now.
